The 2a debate: a shell game of illusion!
disarming law abiding citizens does not reduce violent crime
The reason we need to follow the Original Intent of those who wrote and voted for the Second Amendment is because modern Americans, by and large, especially politicians, are incapable of understanding the dualistic logic used in the Bill of Rights.
There is plenty ample evidence to prove the disarming law abiding citizens does not help reduce violent crime. This is discussed in the article BALTIMORE SHOOTINGS UP 80%+ OVER 2014 FOLLOWING STRICTER GUN CONTROL MEASURES. Article
The problem with the discussion relating to the Second Amendment (2A) is the discussion. Opponents to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights use Western logic, which is based upon the law of contradiction—if two things contradict, then at least one of them is false. This fits into the soundbites and bumper sticker mindset of those who oppose the Bill of Rights and support firearm confiscation.
The inadequacy of traditional Western cause and effect logic is the event, effect, cause, and remedy supported by the Anti-Constitutionalists is not logical, but a mass emotional responses to an illogical and illegal position.
GUN LAWS AND SHOOTINGS ARE NOT RELATED
The anti-gun arguments and shootings are not related. In the wake of the Sandy Hook and each shooting tragedy, President Obama called on Congress to react by passing more gun control laws. In 2011, Connecticut's gun laws were rated the fifth toughest in the country, including a partial ban on assault weapons, and this tragic incident still could not be prevented.
In the wake of each shooting tragedy, Obama, Clinton, and others have called on Congress to react by passing more gun control laws, or react by executive orders (illegal) to include confiscation (2A and 5A violation). While the President is likely to find a broad base of support for some of his mental health directives and for his request for Congress to provide incentives to hire school resource officers, his push to bring back the assault weapons ban and to limit ammunition is misguided do to their way of thinking.
The reality is the gun is the tool. The Second Amendment is a Right, not a privilege, as federal, state, and local governments assert. Now, there are calls for a broader conversation about mental health care in our country to understand why these tragic events keep happening and what we can do to prevent them in the future.
Under this Western logic, the body politic is seeking a root cause to these tragedies. The falsehood is, there is no root cause.
Mental health is the new mantra for gun control. Domestic violence and threats (real or dramatic) of suicide are enough TODAY to have firearms confiscated without any court involvement or due process. It is like abortion: the government agenda supports a third party’s decision to kill a preborn infant and the child has no right of recourse. The inalienable rights of life, liberty, property, and happiness are taken on a misguided logic that does not address the reality of gun ownership or that of being potential parent. The metaphor is not intended to dilute and complicate the argument, but to illustrate the limitations of the anti-gun movement’s misuse of logic. The misuse is prevalent in each of the Anti-Constitutionalist manufactured crises.
